DARIUS GRAY
Trained in broadcast journalism at the University of Utah and Columbia University, Mr. Gray worked for KSL radio and television during the late 60's and early 70's.
More recently Darius participated in the highly acclaimed, PBS family history series, "Ancestors," produced by KBYU Television, and was involved in the KUED documentary, "Utah's African-American Voices."
Perhaps his greatest genealogical accomplishment was as co-director with Marie Taylor of the project to organize and save to CD the "Freedmans' Bank Records." This genealogy treasure contains the marriage, birth and family records of more then 480,000 freed slaves from the 1860's and has offered breakthroughs for countless African Americans seeking to trace their family roots.
He is the coauthor, along with Sister Margaret Young, of the “Standing On The Promises” trilogy, about which the Association of Mormon Letters said: "Over the course of three novels, the reader is taken on a journey from the early nineteenth century to the present day...As readers discover the perseverance of black men and women in the face of ongoing persecution, even at the hands of their fellow Saints, they also learn of the strength of character that kept them going."
Brother Gray was released in August 2003 from his church assignment as President of The Genesis Group of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Genesis organization was established under the direction of The First Presidency and The Quorum of The Twelve in 1971, with the goal of providing support to Black Latter-day Saints.
Darius Gray frequently travels the country as a lecturer to Church and secular audiences on a variety of topics. Mr. Gray and his wife Leslee live in Midvale with their son.
